Pre-Clinical Department - Pathology

Department of Pathology

Introduction
This course provides basic knowledge and understanding of diseases through

elaborating their etiology, mechanisms, morphology, clinical features and complications.

The course spans the gap between the preclinical and clinical subjects. It provides the students with the necessary information required for planning patients' treatment and for developing proper preventive strategies.

Objectives of the Course

The main objectives of the Pathology course are to:

1.       Recognize and understand the basic responses of different body organs to abnormal stimuli.

2.       Recognize types and effects of genetic mutations and understand the molecular basis of carcinogenesis.

3.       Correlate the etiology and pathogenesis of different diseases with their clinical presentation, morphology and outcome.

4.       Identify and describe the morphology of tissues/organs in various diseases through examination of gross specimens and microscopic slides.

5.       Analyze and interpret clinical scenarios utilizing knowledge of basic sciences and diseases, independently and through team work, to be presented to peer and professional groups for evaluation.

6.       Review literature to help in understanding mechanisms of disease, potential for intervention & prevention in the society.
